The Stevenage Lytton Players consist of a number of major sections covering different areas of activities. Members can take part in any or all of these. Details are given below.
Music Drama Youth Music Hall Technical Management
The Music Section aims to present two major musicals a year, often at the Stevenage 'Gordon Craig Theatre, supplemented by concerts and shows at our very own 'Lytton Theatre' at The Sishes in Stevenage. Principal parts in our productions are always auditioned, but chorus parts usually only require a voice test to establish range.
Recent productions have included: Annie; Cabaret; Follies; South Pacific, Jesus Christ Superstar and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers..
Rehearsal times can vary with the Production, but are typically Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The Drama Section traditionally presents two plays a year in our own theatre, and has built a reputation of producing high quality entertainment, enhanced by excellent sets, courtesy of our innovative technical department who regularly rise to the challenge of complex requirements. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Fridays, and there are weekly Tuesday drama meetings and workshops organised between productions as well as informal in-house entertainments.
We have linked with schools to maximise their opportunities for students to see live theatre and to produce plays in the national curriculum when possible and appropriate. These have included plays by Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde.
Please see the list of previous productions elsewhere on this site.

Our young members between the ages of 8 to 18 years meet every Sunday (Thursday for Advanced Group) for sessions covering all aspects of drama, theatre craft and production. They are encouraged to take part in their own shows as well as being able to audition for parts in our regular productions.

Music Hall is a traditional show which has been a firm favourite since the early days of the Stevenage Lytton Players. This is performed once a year over two weeks in the New Year. The show comprises set chorus numbers, individual acts and ensemble pieces, staying true to the spirit of Music Hall.
The show incorporates singing, dancing and drama including some novelty acts and the Male Dance. Members of the cast suggest and perform some of the items for inclusion in the programme. The format appeals to members of the traditional Music Hall audience and has become a favourite for more recent converts to this welcoming table show.
The show is linked together by a traditional Music Hall Chairman who regales the audience with topical anecdotes and jokes between acts. The friendly style of the show encourages audience participation and interaction with the cast and waiters and waitresses who serve them throughout the show.
